While this does have some benefits for player retention, the main downside to this form of content delivery is that it barely strings players along, with dedicated long-term fans having to wait months for admittedly lackluster seasonal updates that do little to truly bolster gameplay. Infinity Ward hasn't been able to release all of its planned content in rapid succession, and so the studio has to stagger post-launch content over the course of a two-year period in order to drip feed new experiences to players and keep them engaged. The main predicament that Modern Warfare 2 has found itself in ever since its launch in October 2022 relates to the sparse amount of content that it originally came with.
